Answers to COMMENT FORM Questions : Q : Dear Kas,Can you confirm if Nitrous (NOS ) is allowed to be used used in vehicles at the 1st Avenue Drags. From what i have heared is that turbos are allowed. If it is true then can you offer an explaination .regards Terence (JHB)
A : In response to the NOS question below. Decision by Metro Fire and Disaster Management not to allow NOS at the Durban events. They perceive it as being dangerous especially in the City centre. However, we are still in discussions with them and hopefully next year we will be able to use NOS at First Avenue.
Q : When will you be putting up pictures of the last Mtubatuba Drags ?
A : KZN Motor Racing does not have a dedicated photographer , I sometimes take pictures and load them on the site and at times we use pictures submitted to us by magazines and/or people attending these drag events : Thanks : Hybrid Q : Kas : I have a 1300 normillay asp kit car with a fibre glass body. The vehicle is street legal. What class would this fall in ? What is the fastest time in this class to date ? Many Thanks Malek A : The car would run in the S class. The quickest times in this class are in the low 12s. Q : you guys always have events were golf vs opel or toyota vs mazda what about your BMW supporters Durban has about the strongerst bmw's in the country if not on your track. ( call it KZN's strongest bmw ) use it don't use it. A : There are at currently 4 classes for the 6 cyl BMWs ie. 6A,6B,6C,6S and there are BMWs competing in all of these classes. They dominate most of these classes anyway. There is no challenge for the fastest BMW unless it is national and specific like M3 or turbocharged BMW etc. We have previously offered the BMW M3 and Ford ST competitors a class of their own if they can have at least 10 cars at every event and secure trophy sponsorship for their class. This offer still stands.Kas. Q : Is Matubatuba just a single days event on the 30th March 2008? I know how to get to Matubatuba but once I'm there how do I get to the event? What is the entrance fee? A : Mtubatuba events are single day events held only on Sundays and the same will apply for 30th March 2008.Ask locals in Mtubatuba area for directions to 121 Battalion airstrip as this where the drags are held.Entrance fees : R 30 adults and R 10 for kids.Regards Hybrid. Q : Hi Kas :I would like to know how come KZN motor racing does not do anything about preparing the track for its racers . Alot of the cars that i have seen that go to oter venues around the country, do much better times than thay do in the two tracks provided by KZN motor racing. Is it a cost thing. I head coke ( flat coke works well). I have watched the last Durban drag DVD and even the burnouts were your drives warm up the tyres was a joke. "Up down "up down i mean whats that about. Some drives went up and down three times before staging. Give the guys a proper burn out after all this is a drag event and thay are meant to warm up there tyres well u know this. A : In response to the preparation of the track we need to compare apples with apples. We do not run on a purpose built track, First Avenue is a busy street that is used daily. Other permanent facilities have the relevant loading on the asphalt/concrete that is used, First Ave has 'chip and spray" which leaves holes when trackbite with standing burnouts are effected. We are currently repairing those holes at the start.Should there be excessive damage to the road, the City may not allow us use of that facility. The important thing to remember is it is a STREET event and we only allowed to close the road at 4 hours before the actual race at 18h00. Even where there was a possibility of preparing a track, it requires the use of specialised equipment done in a specific way.Having said that, there are cars that have run in the 10 sec in First avenue...thats no joke. Q : Hey Kas. I just want to find out something. I race my bike, and want to know how many classes are there gona be for the bikes at the Durbz event? I know you always have 2(below 1000cc and 1000cc and up). I want to find out if it would be possible to make 3 classes??? 600cc, 750cc and than 1000cc and up? It realy is difficult to compete against the 750's and we almost never get a change to prove our selfs. Regards Jaco(zx monster) A : The bike representative(Gary Vandayar) discussed this other bikers that race regularly and we formed two classes which we ran for the last 4 or 5 events. The classes are 750cc and below, and over 750cc. We do no get sufficient entries to have any more classes.
